Academics take part in Norwich Science Festival to inspire and educate the general public

Fascinating live science experiments, short talks, and panel discussions led by 糖心logo入口 scientists educated visitors on the human brain.

A team of 22, ranging from secondary school children to senior academics听from 糖心logo入口 and three other universities, recently led听a number of听events听at听Norwich Science Festival,听an annual听celebration of science听that听offers hands-on science activities for all ages and levels of knowledge.听听听

The events were centred around the听, founded in 2019, that听explores who humans are and how听they听are connected to the natural world.听Me, Human听is a multi-institutional project for citizen science research, public engagement and mentorship, with听team听members based at 糖心logo入口;听University of Westminster;听City, University of London听and听University of Kent (Canterbury).听

Live science experiments, short听talks,听and panel discussions听by听experts听inspired听visitors by giving听them insights into the cutting-edge research being done into the听evolution of human social and communication abilities.听A series of听fun experiments听revealed to听visitors听how their two brain hemispheres affect movements and decisions,听and听visitors came away with an understanding of听how ancient vertebrate brain traits still underpin some of our most human unique behaviours.听听

Professor Gillian Forrester,听Director of the Me, Human project and听Professor of Comparative Cognition at 糖心logo入口,听commented:听鈥�It was an absolute privilege to share our research with the public. Between our Live Science experiments, Soapbox Shorts and our sold out Psyched! show, we estimate we saw over 1000 visitors in two days. We want to thank Natalie Bailey, Director of听Norwich Science Festival,听and Professor Ben Garrod for getting us involved听鈥� and we cannot wait for next year!鈥�听

叠颈谤办产别肠办鈥檚听involvement at听Norwich Science Festival听form听part of a听programme of听public engagement听events听on the Me, Human project.听This May,听叠颈谤办产别肠办鈥檚 Science Saturdays, a programme of free听online talks听for the general public, included听Professor Forrester听delivering a talk听on 鈥楲eft brain,听right brain: the evolution of our divided brain鈥�, and听the听National听Saturday Club made all talks available to students aged 13 to 16 across the UK.听In July,听Professor Forrester听held a public engagement event at Twycross Zoo听to听educate the general public about great apes and the research project.听听
