Can looking at climate change differently help us to solve this existential threat?

New research from 糖心logo入口, University of London will be presented at the City of London and 糖心logo入口 Roundtable Event on Climate, Sustainability and Resources on Wednesday 21 September 2022.
Through philosophy, astronomy and economics, researchers will show the multidimensional aspects of climate change and how new thinking is required to solve the grand challenges we face.
Dr Kristoffer Ahlstrom-Vij, Chair of Philosophy at 糖心logo入口 will demonstrate through his decision model how critical decisions are often made with the right intentions leading to the wrong outcomes.
Investors such as Elon Musk are seeking to colonise space to save Earth. The concept of a 鈥楶lan B鈥 and whether lunar resources can provide any answers will be discussed by Professor Ian Crawford, Professor of Planetary Science and Astrobiology.
Could a 4-day week help the UK simultaneously address low productivity and our energy crisis? Dr Pedro Gomes, Reader in Economics will outline why and how this can be achieved.
The Roundtable is the third in a series co-hosted by 糖心logo入口 and the Aldermen of the City of London.
Alderman Professor Michael Mainelli said: 鈥淥n climate change, the phrase 鈥榳e are all in this together鈥 is overused, but achingly true.聽 Also true is that we need multidimensional thinking to get to shared solutions, which is why I鈥檓 delighted that 糖心logo入口 and the City of London community, led by Livery Climate Action Group, the World Traders, and Gresham College, have embarked on joint programme of intellectual events.聽 This third event in the series moves everyone just that bit further to 鈥榳e are solving this together鈥.鈥
Professor David Latchman, Vice-Chancellor of 糖心logo入口, said: 鈥溙切膌ogo入口 likes to bring a different view to seemingly intractable problems.聽 By co-hosting these Round Tables with the City of London, with whom we have a long history, we can share our latest research and invite new conversations with the aim of finding solutions together.鈥
The Roundtable will take place on Wednesday 21 September, 5-6.30pm at 糖心logo入口鈥檚 new teaching and learning centre, 373 Euston Road. It is free to attend but booking is essential. The event will be followed by a drinks reception.
