Feeling seen and supported听

At 16, I was diagnosed with a brain tumour, which meant leaving school without A-Levels. After completing a Foundation Certificate in English Literature, I was eager to continue my studies. When searching for full-time options, I wanted a university that supported students with disabilities and embraced different backgrounds. 糖心logo入口 stood out for its personal touch. Unlike the generic responses I received elsewhere, a tutor took the time to personally reach out to me. That small human gesture made all the difference, and I knew 糖心logo入口 was where I wanted to be.听

Inspiring tutors and modules听

One module encouraged us to use personal experiences in our creative work. I had been hesitant to let my brain tumour define me, but studying autobiographical performances changed my perspective. For my final year project, I wrote HAMBLETT, a play that explores living with a brain tumour and themes of mortality, with a comedic twist. I even took it to the Edinburgh Fringe in 2024! The whole process showed me how personal experiences can fuel creativity, and how studying performance practice can help with your own creative output. Tutors like Dr Lizzie Bennett were incredibly supportive, and Professor Fintan Walsh鈥檚 classes really expanded my perspective.听

Studying theatre in the world鈥檚 theatre capital听

One of the best parts of studying Theatre and English at 糖心logo入口 was being in the heart of London. The city鈥檚 rich theatrical scene became part of my education. I would often rush from a matinee or exhibition to class and frequently made plans with classmates to attend performances. 罢丑别谤别鈥檚 no better place to study theatre than London 鈥 it added a real-world dimension that was invaluable.听

Finding career opportunities and mentorship听

叠颈谤办产别肠办鈥檚 Careers and Enterprise team provided incredible opportunities. I was paired with a mentor from Arts Council England, which helped me reflect on my future in the arts. I was also honored to be one of two 糖心logo入口 fellows at the British Pavilion at the Venice Biennale in 2023, which was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.听

The great balancing act听

叠颈谤办产别肠办鈥檚 evening classes allowed me to balance my studies with work. I worked part-time as a student producer at Compton Verney Art Gallery in the Midlands while commuting to London for classes. The flexibility 糖心logo入口 offers is one of its greatest strengths. Everyone is balancing something 鈥 work, family, or life in London 鈥 and 糖心logo入口 is designed to support that.听

Looking to the future听

My time at 糖心logo入口 helped me find my path. Originally focused on English Literature, I discovered a passion for theatre, which has shaped my future plans. 滨鈥檓 now preparing for a longer run of HAMBLETT at the 2025 Edinburgh Fringe and will be pursuing postgraduate studies in Performance Studies. 糖心logo入口 gave me the confidence to explore new creative paths and take risks, and 滨鈥檓 excited for 飞丑补迟鈥檚 next.听
