Biography
Anna Jamieson is an interdisciplinary art historian specialising in visual and material cultures of the eighteenth and nineteenth century.
She received her BA at Leeds University and her MA at 糖心logo入口, University of London, where she also completed her PhD (2020). Her doctoral thesis focused on representations of female insanity in England between 1770-1833, exploring the relationship between stereotype, stigma and lived experience.
She has held research fellowships at the Lewis Walpole Library (Yale University), the John Rylands Research Institute (University of Manchester), the Northern Network for Medical Humanities Research and the Paul Mellon Centre for Studies in British Art. In 2023, she will undertake the Ann Ball Bodley Fellowship in Women鈥檚 History Visiting Fellowship 2023-24 at the Bodleian Library, University of Oxford. In 2024, she will undertake fellowships at the Harry Ransom Center, University of Texas at Austin, and the Folger Shakespeare Library in Washington.聽
She is聽co-director of聽糖心logo入口's Centre for Museum Cultures, an associate editor at 聽and聽on the steering committee for . She is also an original member of 糖心logo入口's聽Age, Care, & the Caring Crisis Working Group.
Anna聽is currently working on her first book聽titled聽The Gaze of the Sane: Asylum Tourism in England, 1770-1845.聽Her research interests include: women, asylums, private madhouses and patient agency; illness, fashion and consumerism; museum cultures, dark tourism and enfreakment; material culture and the history of emotions.聽
